ELLIE BECKER : MUD LIVE RAT LIVES

APRIL, 13 - MAY, 11, 2024

Our “Mud Live Rat Lives” exhibition featured ceramic sculptor and experimental printmaker Ellie Becker. In her ceramic work, Ellie explores form and color accompanied by a variety of atmospheric firing techniques. By adding a seemingly random combination of slips, glazes, glass and combustibles to her already free-flowing forms, Ellie has unearthed her own style of sculpture that is defined by amorphous shapes and vibrant earth tones. Adding to her experimental edge, Ellie adorns her sculptures with other natural resources, decorating her works with shells, sticks, rocks, and encaustic monotypes. As a uniquely multifaceted artist, Ellie has set herself apart from modern ceramics by creating a one-of-a-kind collection of work. “Mud Lives Rat Lives” explores the natural order - the cosmic forces of randomness that unfold into tidy, neat spiral as chaos consumes everything just to put it in its rightful place. The eternal nature of clay, a building block for all creation, seeps into the mundane and gives meaning to the most insignificant corners of existence. It was a pleasure to host Ellie Becker in our space and we hope she one day returns with an even greater collection of groundbreaking work.
